Daughter for Hire provides non-medical in-home respite services that assist the elderly, give their families peace of mind, and make it possible for seniors to age in place enjoying their golden years.
Whether it’s laundry, meal preparation, light housekeeping or assistance with medical appointments, our bonded and insured care companions are there to help.
You can find us serving families throughout the Mohawk Valley and Capital Region, and our offices are open for scheduling, questions about our service and our care companions, and to provide information on how we can help your loved ones.

Our story
Seniors Living Independently
Daughter for Hire got its start when Kathleen Rutishauser, a successful business professional, left a corporate role to focus on the more meaningful work helping others. She found great fulfillment in caring for friends and family members who needed a little extra help, and a little bit of support from someone who had patience, compassion, and truly cared about their desire to live independently.

Her heart was to care for more and more individuals until the “service” turned into a growing business. At that point, she brought in someone she knew she could trust, someone who could help her run and grow the business – who was also (and still is!) her best friend.
Denise Flihan joined Kathleen as co-owner in 2014 and the rest is history. The business now operates in two markets in Upstate New York and serves the community with over 70 caregivers.
Their mission remains the same as it did when it started. To help those who are aging to remain living at home and live independently, as long as they safely can.

Each client relationship is unique, as is every individual.
Our core criteria for hiring our care companions is honesty, integrity, patience, caring nature, compassion and a pleasing personality. Our focus has been to build a team that represents the kind of people that you’d like to have in your own home. Our specially trained care companions have experience in working with clients who have dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. We understand the impact on the individual and those close to him or her, and work closely with those involved to provide respite and assistance.
For the security and the peace of mind of our clients, all care companions are bonded and insured. We carefully screen our employees through the interviewing process, reference checks and a national criminal background check.
Client satisfaction is paramount in our world. Our employees are actively managed and follow Daughter for Hire policies and procedures. Regular communication with you helps us to best understand your needs and to surpass your expectations.
